The Greater Manchester Apprenticeship (GMAC) is a new, unique partnership between The Skills Company and nine colleges across Greater Manchester. Launched in Summer 2016, the partnership’s aim is to increase the number of young people choosing an apprenticeship as an alternative route to career success.

Following the success of the last ‘selfie’ competition, the team will be out and about at events around GM in the coming weeks with giveaway selfie sticks and mobile phone cases, to promote apprenticeships to learners.  To enter, learners should take a selfie with one of the newly-designed emoji boards to represent the industry they want to work in, post their pic on Twitter or Instagram, and follow @thisismeGMAC. The winner will be announced following National Apprenticeship Week, taking place from 6th – 10th March.

National Apprenticeship Week is a brilliant opportunity for young people to learn more about apprenticeships and the progression routes available. The various events taking place during the week will bring apprentices, providers and employers together to reflect on the positive impact that apprenticeships and traineeships have.

Over 5000 young people have now accessed GMAC’s ‘This is Me’ online apprenticeship portal, which offers a range of tools to assist them with activities such as putting together a CV and cover letter as well as mock interviews to help prepare for potential interviews. These tools enable leaners to feel confident and comfortable when they begin to take steps to becoming an apprentice. The portal includes a vacancy page that lists apprenticeship vacancies across Greater Manchester, allowing young people to find an apprenticeship that suits their goals & aspirations.

Any learner who is 16-24 and undertaking study with The Skills Company can enter the selfie competition, contact apprentice Megan Hodgkinson at gmac@apprenticeshipgrowth.co.uk for more information.
