LVW Group is a supplier and distributor of automotive parts based in Birkenhead on the Wirral. The company was founded in 1946 as L.V Walsh and now employs around 100 staff at locations across Merseyside, North Wales and Shropshire. Many of the staff have been with the company for some time and have been promoted into supervisory or management positions from the shop floor.

Skills Company Develops ‘Prevent’ Resources

The Skills Company has secured funding from The Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) to develop learning materials to promote British values, and identify and tackle extremism and radicalisation in response to the government’s Prevent programme. Prevent is a key part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy, and aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism through various forms of radicalisation.

A new business survey has revealed that almost a third of small businesses feel that their workforce doesn’t have the skills that their business needs. And over half don’t believe that they will be able to find suitable recruits to address the problem. But only one in 20 of the SMEs planning to take on new staff will look for an apprentice.
