Budget Boost For Apprenticeship Employers

In a surprise move, the Chancellor of the Exchequer yesterday announced in the Budget a bonus for employers who employ apprentices. From April next year, employers will receive a 10% top-up to their Apprenticeship Levy contributions which will be available for them to spend on apprenticeship training through their digital account.

The Apprenticeship levy, announced in the Autumn 2015 budget statement, is designed to create and fund three million Apprenticeship starts by 2020. The levy, set at 0.5% (half of one percent) of an employer’s overall salary bill, is to be collected through PAYE and will become law with the introduction of the Finance Bill 2016.
