Chloe Crompton from Warrington is happy that she’s made the right career choices, as she moves towards completion of her BA Honours Degree in Business and Management.

After achieving good A level grades at college, Chloe considered going to university, but also wanted to explore a vocational route into the career of her choice.  Her careers advisor at college told her about the apprenticeship opportunities available at The Skills Company, and she successfully applied for an Advanced Apprenticeship in Social Media and Digital Marketing within The Skills Company.

Chloe’s work involves updating content on the company’s website, writing blogs and producing video case studies.  She also manages the company’s social media accounts and creates email newsletters to send to clients and learners. She co-ordinates the development of design work and helps with organising recruitment events.

When she completed her apprenticeship, Chloe didn’t want her development to end there, so she enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Business Management run by The Skills Company in partnership with the Staffordshire University, and she completed that in the summer of 2016, passing with a distinction.  Graduates from the Foundation Degree can then move on to the BA Honours Business Management Top Up offered by The Skills Company with Staffordshire University, and Chloe began that course in September 2016.  She expects to finish the course in the autumn of 2017, and will then graduate with a full BA Honours Degree in 2018.

Chloe said:  “Studying for the Foundation Degree and the Top Up has been really useful in my job.  I’ve learned a lot about the theory of marketing, and the module on branding was particularly relevant to my role.  Our tutor, Ron has a wealth of experience in business and is always able to draw on real life examples to illustrate the subject that we’re studying.  My company has been very supportive, and I’ve had half a day a week to keep up with my studies.

“It’s been great to be able to study for a degree while still working and gaining practical experience.  I feel that I’ll be in a much better position when I graduate than someone who has a degree but no experience.  I’m just moving to a new team within the company with more responsibility, and I’m sure that the skills and knowledge I’ve gained through my studies will help me rise to the challenge of the new position.”
