Karen Walker from Dukinfield is a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at a Primary School in Stalybridge in Tameside. Karen achieved the Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification at Edge Hill College (now Edge Hill University) in 2004. Karen was interested in further developing her qualifications, and after some research on the internet, learned about the Foundation Degree course in Early Years and Childhood Studies at The Skills Company.

Karen enrolled on the course and because of her prior qualification, only had to complete about half of the Foundation Degree course.

“I really enjoyed the Foundation Degree course. There’s a good combination of group work, individual assignments and tutorials. The staff at The Skills Company were all very friendly and helpful, and were always there to provide support when required, and the group of students all got on very well. The learning facilities at The Skills Company were great, and made the learning experience even better.”

"I’m really pleased that I’ve been able to continue my professional development through The Skills Company. The commitment and enthusiasm of the tutors inspired me continue this love for learning.”

“My qualifications have now been updated on the school’s website, and I have recently changed my role within school enabling me to teach music in key stage 1 and 2 as well as the Early Years.”

“I have just completed Level 3 Forest School leader and I’m now looking into studying for a Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Education.”

“I’m very happy where I am, but I would now be able to apply for higher level jobs in the future if I wanted to. I would certainly recommend The Skills Company for the Foundation Degree and the Honours top-up, in fact I already have recommended it to several colleagues.”
