Elfin Brook from Manchester works as a Disability Fitness Co-ordinator for Calderdale Council’s Children’s Services. Elfin’s ambition was to go to university to study Podiatry, but he didn’t have the required qualifications. He heard about the Skills Company’s Access to Higher Education courses while studying with another provider, and successfully applied to join the Access to Nursing and Midwifery Diploma course in 2014.

Cristina Cupido-Gomez from Manchester wanted to go to university to study Human Resource Management, but the qualifications that she had gained at school in Spain would not enable her to apply for a university course. Cristina looked into joining access courses at various colleges, but when she enquired at Manchester Metropolitan University, she was referred to The Skills Company.

Ross Whittaker from Harpurhey in Manchester attended Plant Hill High School, but was not suited to academic study and left school at the earliest opportunity. Ross had done several periods of work experience whilst at school, and ideally wanted a career in the construction industry.

Imran Zameer from Whalley Range in Manchester wanted to go to university to study Marketing, but the qualifications that he’d achieved at school and college were not sufficient for him to apply. Imran was working full time as a Content Executive at Laterooms.com, a hotel reservations company providing discounted accommodation throughout the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

Wasif Ramtoola from Higher Broughton in Salford studied for his A Levels at school, but didn’t do as well as he’d hoped. He still had ambitions to go to university, but needed to achieve the entry requirements. Wasif looked on the internet for access to higher education courses and came across The Skills Company’s range of courses.

Reece Prince from Wythenshawe attended Manchester Enterprise Academy where he achieved good grades in his GCSEs. Reece decided while he was still at school that he wanted to do an apprenticeship. He’d enjoyed practical subjects at school, and enjoyed finding out how things were made and how they worked.
